Jacob “Jake” Roberts has dedicated over 22 years of his life helping and treating psychiatric disorders. At the age of 7, his daughter suffered a traumatic brain injury which inspired him to seek the best services possible for those in seek of mental health care. Jake started his career in 2006 at a psychiatric hospital as a tech and has grown to build and serve one of the largest psychiatric practices in Southern Utah. Jake’s passion lies in providing exceptional care and fostering holistic well-being in his patients. He earned his Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Degree from the University of Utah and has since served in diverse behavioral health settings, including outpatient, wilderness, and residential programs.
Specializing in adolescent and young adult psychiatric care, Jake personalizes each treatment plan to meet their unique needs. He believes strongly in using minimal medication and prioritizing the development of effective coping skills. In addition to treating patients, Jake mentors other psychiatric nurse practitioners and therapists. As a leader in his field, he actively promotes awareness, inclusivity, and continuous improvement in psychiatric healthcare, particularly here in Southern Utah.
Outside of work, Jake is a father to four children and grandfather to seven. His love for his kids extends to his bonus kids. Jake enjoys quality time with family through boating and travel, and is not one to pass on an opportunity for play or adventure. He has a passion for mountain biking, which he shares with others through sponsorships, driving kids to early morning practices and making sure bike tires are pumped and gears are working properly. He is the first to make sure helmets are available for any activity.
Jake’s family and relationships have always been paramount in his life. He shows up to sporting events at the end of long work days and sacrifices personal time to support his family in their endeavors. He met the love of his life and partner in 2020 and they’ve built a simple yet fulfilling life together of mutual respect and love. Together they support one another in business, creativity, sports, and even remodeling. In their short time together they have faced many large challenges and have learned great things together as a result.
One of Jake’s greatest mentors, Dr. Cantril Neilsen, left this life and their practice they built together after 15 years in 2023 to Cancer. Today, Jake wears the Superman ‘S’ on his chest that Dr. Neilsen passed to him as his business partner and friend. Cantril’s legacy of selfless service to the mental health community lives on through Jake. We are the lucky ones to have Jake at the helm in business, treatment, and life. In our world, he is nothing short of a legend.
